REPETITION
A powerful way to unify a garden
This month, we’re diving into the powerful design principle of Repetition.
Repetition is more than just a design technique; it’s a way to create cohesion and harmony in your outdoor spaces. By intentionally repeating elements like plants, colors, and materials, you can transform a scattered collection of features into a unified masterpiece. This not only enhances the visual appeal but also guides the eye and creates a sense of flow throughout your garden.
In this month’s guide, we’ll explore practical ways to incorporate repetition effectively, ensuring your garden feels intentional and inviting. From groupings of plants to color palettes and architectural features, we’ll uncover the secrets to achieving a balanced and beautiful design.
Join us as we learn to harness the power of repetition to tell your garden’s unique story, creating a space that resonates with both beauty and purpose!

RESOURCES in our DESIGN LIBRARY
Below are some resources to help you with this month's topic. Some are past Garden Design Guides and the last one is our Green in the Garden Pinterest Board for extra inspiration.
MONOCHROMATIC COLOR SCHEMES
This Garden Design Guide dives into one color wheel combination: monochromatic color schemes.
OVERVIEW OF DESIGN PRINCIPLES
A great foundation for organizing the elements in any garden is understanding the basic principles of design. This Garden Design Guide will give you an overview of the seven principles.
SHAPE IN SPATIAL DESIGN
Once you know the function of your garden room, you can start defining the ground plane with a SHAPE. The shape is the two-dimensional outline of the floor plane.
SENSE OF PLACE
Creating a sense of place in landscape design involves a deep understanding of the site's history, architecture, ecology, and cultural context, as well as, the thoughtful integration of these elements into your design.
COLOR HARMONY
Color harmony in garden design refers to the strategic use of color to create a balanced, pleasing, and aesthetically cohesive outdoor space. Your architecture can be a building block in your color palette.
ARCHITECTURE IMPACT
Texture exists most of the year and in some cases...all year. Creating the right texture combinations in a planting makes it pop. You're looking for contrast in leaf size and shape, plus plant density.
