DRAWING STAIRS in ONE-POINT PERSPECTIVE
One step at a time
This month, we're adding a new tool to your one-point perspective sketchbook: drawing stairs. Whether you're designing a sloped front yard, a walkway that needs a few steps up to the door, or just want to feel confident tackling elevation change in your sketches, this technique helps you show a client how a space will rise and unfold in front of them.
Drawing stairs is really just drawing boxes stacked on top of each other, one at a time. It might feel intimidating at first (stairs! on a slope!), but with a few simple guidelines and a little practice, it becomes just as natural as drawing a straight sidewalk.
Join us as we build on your one-point perspective foundation and take it somewhere new. You don't have to be "good at drawing" to start. You just need a pencil, a ruler, and a willingness to take it one step at a time.

Let's do this!

VIDEOS: Drawing Stairs in One-Point Perspective
I created a demo video below showing the basics of drawing stairs in one-point perspective. Look to see how I find the existing vanishing point, then use that to create one stair at at a time stacked on top of each other (like boxes). And remember: verticals in real life stay vertical in your drawing too.
