WHAT IS SENSE OF PLACE?

Creating a sense of place in landscape design involves a deep understanding of the site's history, ecology, and cultural context, as well as the thoughtful integration of these elements into your final design.

When done successfully, it allows people to connect with and appreciate the landscape on a deeper level, while fostering a sense of attachment and belonging to the space. Sense of place is also one of the best sources of inspiration for your design. 

HOW TO ACHIEVE SENSE OF PLACE

Cultural Identity: How can local values, traditions and stories fold into your design?

Natural Context: Consider local ecosystems and plant communities as inspiration for your own plant palette.

History: How can local history inspire colors, architecture, patterns and other design choices?

.....

Local Materials: Consider natural materials in your area (for example local stone and wood), plus traditional craftsmanship for installation.

.....

Architectural Style: How can the style of your house inspire the style of your landscape? Is it mid-century modern, Victorian or a 1920s farm house?
