Welcome back to another edition of THE PENCIL CASE! As always, each issue focuses on a theme to encourage a fresh look at garden design and graphics. As you enjoy your garden this summer I hope you continue to welcome the beautiful wildlife that shares our outdoor spaces...in multiple ways. Two years ago I shared Monrovia's first Backyard Habitat Guide and now I'd love to share the 2024 version. This latest version includes many more options. Let's jump in!

BACKYARD HABITAT GUIDE

Over the last couple of years Monrovia Nursery has kindly asked me to create a variety of garden plans for their Backyard Habitat Guide. The first set back in 2022 included three larger landscape plans, then we added three more slightly smaller ones for weekend projects. This year we added even tinier ones...in containers. The 2024 guide now includes nine habitat options for your backyard. So exciting!

THREE HABITATS

The 2024 BACKYARD HABITAT GUIDE showcases three habitats. Each includes a large patio landscape plan, a smaller weekend project plan, plus a container design. These also include plant lists and tips on how to grow a healthy habitat. They include a:

• Hummingbird Garden (Select bright, tubular flowers and attract lots of insects)
• Birding Garden (Include plenty of seeds, fruit, shelter, clean water, plus attract plenty of insects once again)
• Bees + Butterflies Garden (mass pollinator-friendly plants and shoot for bloom spring through fall)
