Hort-Ecology Design Series

Join Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden Director of Horticulture Kelly Norris and Iowa State University Horticulture Senior Lecturer and Landscape Architect Lisa Orgler in a three-part series aimed at making your garden beautiful and functional. This immersive course offers participants an opportunity to learn about wild plant communities and plant ecology while adapting these insights for the home garden. During the course, participants will develop a planting plan for a project of their choice with guidance from the instructors. 

This workshop will span three class sessions: February 6, 13, 20 from 6-8 PM

2017 Nebraska Great Plains Conference

PLANTING DESIGN WORKSHOP (Full-day)

This workshop will explore the beauty of arranging plant materials in your garden beds. Topics will include the elements of planting design including an in-depth look at form, texture and color; how to use these elements to compose a planting design, traditional and contemporary planting models, plus some basic graphics of plant symbols and drawing in elevation, so you can communicate your ideas to others.  Though not required, participants are welcome to bring along their favorite plant books or catalogs, plus a laptop or iPad. This is a hands-on workshop, so please come prepared to learn, draw, design and have fun.
