Garden Podcasts
When I’m drawing… pencil moving slowly across trace, ideas taking shape…I often have a podcast playing in the background. Not something that demands too much attention, but voices that keep me company. Conversations about plants, places, process, and perspective.

Recently, I asked the designers inside my membership, Garden Design Collective, what they like to listen to while they draw and design. What came back was a thoughtful, wide-ranging list that felt worth sharing. Some are deeply plant-focused, some zoom out to culture and place, and others sit right at the intersection of design and gardening.

Here’s what we’re listening to:
Design + Process + Big-Picture Thinking
- The Process-Driven Designer Podcast. A favorite for anyone interested in how design thinking unfolds.
- Cultivating Place. Rich conversations about land, culture, and meaning.
- Roots and All. A beautifully grounded podcast that explores gardening through a cultural and environmental lens.
Gardening + Plants + Practical Inspiration
- The Relished Garden Podcast. Warm, thoughtful, and rooted in real garden experience.
- A Way to Garden. A classic for a reason. Insightful conversations that balance plants, ecology, and lived experience.
- Joe Gardener Podcast. Practical, informative, and reassuring… especially good when you want solid plant knowledge.
- Native Plant Podcast. A great companion when you’re thinking about ecology, habitat, and planting with intention.
- Grow, Cook, Eat, Arrange. A new kind of productive gardening which places emphasis on intense color, sophistication, and achievability.

Lively + Conversational + Just Plain Fun
- Let’s Argue About Plants. Opinionated, entertaining, and refreshingly honest.
- The Gardenangelists. Conversational and enthusiastic, like chatting with fellow plant lovers.
- Hops and Hedges. Equal parts gardening and good humor.
- Plantastic Podcast. A friendly, plant-forward podcast sharing practical advice, garden enthusiasm, and a genuine love of growing.
- Talking Gardens. Conversations with gardeners and designers exploring plants, places, and the stories behind how gardens come together.
A Familiar Favorite + Comfort Listening
- BBC Gardener’s World. Comfort listening at its best… familiar, calming, and endlessly inspiring.

What I love about this list is how much it reflects the many ways we come to garden design: through plants, yes… but also through stories, conversations, ecology, and process. These podcasts don’t pull me out of my work; they settle me into it.
If you’re someone who draws better with voices in the background, I hope you find something here to keep you company at the drafting table. And if you have a favorite garden or design podcast I missed, I’d love to add it to the list.

Quick note: I’d also love to thank Amy Fedele for sharing her post on favorite podcasts below. I’ve included these above, but Amy provides more details about the ones on her list.
