Rendering Plant Symbols in Marker

I remember being a little scared as a student when I had to render a plan with those bright, non-forgiving, permanent markers. Over the years I've developed a simple way to use markers...more as a wash to my ink drawings, rather than layering color upon color of marker (as those amazing marker artists do). Once I figured out what worked best for me the process was more relaxing and much more fun.

Today I limit my color choices, reapply the same colors for shadows, keep strokes at the same angle (or you can use a circular motion), then top it off with details using my trusty felt-tip pen. I've made a video so you can see how I build these layers one after the other.
